Tour Description
Funchal Highlands Running Tour is one of the our best tours for beginners. It’s not completely flat but also not too much challenging.
This tour starts at a local meeting point to the Madeirans, the Poiso coffee spot (1412m). You start in the forest level of Funchal highlands running along an old levada before going uphill.
After 7km with alternate flat and uphill trails you reach to the top of Pico Areeiro (1818m). Here you have one of the highlights of the tour, a breathtaking view to the highest mountains of the island.
From the top you can see almost all the highest peaks of Madeira. Looking at the north direction you’ll see Pico das Torres (1853m), the 2nd, and if you look carefully you see the top of Pico Ruivo (1861m), the top of the island.
The way down is a little technical on the first kilometer but the rest of the way is made in very comfortable trails back again to the start point.
