Fanal and Levada dos Cedros Walking Tour – Tour Description
Fanal and Levada dos Cedros walking tours is a great combination for a mixed tour in the forest and levada walking.
This tour starts at the end point of the Levada dos Cedros one of the greenest levadas in the island.
After walking for about 500m along the levada you softly head up to Fanal forest (1150m) where you will find a green open area with some cows and lots of huge ancient trees. In fact, this really looks like one of those fairy tale magical places.
In this place you’ll find several centenarian laurel trees, like the Canary Laurels (laurus novocanariensis) and the imposing Madeira Laurel (ocotea foetens) with some guardian cows quietly walking around enjoying the silence of this place.
After admiring this beautiful place, you’ll take our way back going down to the Levada dos Cedros where you have a flat walking section from it’s beginning till the road where you started the tour.
Fanal forest is as beautiful with a clear sunny day as in a misty day. In a clear day, you’ll see the whole wide forest, however if the weather is a bit misty, you’ll see the magic of this place.

Additional Information
The tour is 11km long and it takes approximately 4 hours to do it. The terrain is made of grass, dirt, sometimes muddy, and rocks and roots.
We consider this tour for intermediate fitness level (3 out of 5). If the ground is humid or wet, it might require double attention because it will be slippery in some parts.
