The Peaks Quest is one of our hardest trail running experience, mainly because of the hundreds of steps that you will find in the way.
This running experience starts on the 3rd highest peak of Madeira – Pico Areeiro (1818m) and crosses part of the scenic central mountain range of the island by some steep trails and lots of steps, crossing Pico das Torres (2nd highest – 1851m) by handmade tunnels, and climbing to the top of the island – Pico Ruivo (1861m).
Along the way you will find some high altitude vegetation like the heathers (Erica arborea and Erica platycodon madeirincola) and some birds that usually are always around the place like the Partridge (Alectoris rufa) and the Madeiran Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs maderensis)
The way back is made my the same trail, but always with new and unexpected views.
The track is a 12km long and about 1.000m elevation gain/loss. The terrain is made mostly of rocky paved parts, dirt and lots of steps.
