Ponta de São Lourenço Walking Tour – Tour Description
Ponta de São Lourenço walking tour is the best tour for ocean lovers.
All the way in this tour you get the sounds of the ocean hitting the dramatic and colorful volcanic cliffs.
This tour starts in Caniçal village following a trail along this eastern peninsula sometimes with a view to the north shore, sometimes to the south.
The trail is constantly up and down and you need to be cautious with some rocky sections.
You’ll reach a coffee spot named Casa do Sardinha where you can stop to rest and eat/drink something (not included). If you want you can climb to the nearest peak, however the steps are extremely slippery.
The way back is made the same way, you can see some details you haven’t seen before and try to hear and spot the Atlantic Canary and the Berthelot’s Pipit, two of the most common birds in that area.

Additional Information
The tour is 7km long and it takes approximately 3 hours to do it. The terrain is made of dirt, sometimes muddy, and some small tricky rocks.
We consider this tour for beginner/intermediate fitness level (2 out of 5). The irregular rocky ground sometimes is tricky and it can be slippery.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a shared tour with other guests. Your walking pace might be different than the other participants during the tour, therefore we will ask you to be comprehensive and avoid moving away from the group.

We went on the private Sao Laurenco walking tour and had a great experience. It is a spectacular part of the Island with fantastic views all around. Dinarte is a knowledgeable guide and told us a lot about the flora and fauna and history of the place. We are not the fastest walkers and took a lot of photos and he was very patient.
We would very much like to go on a walking tour with Dinarte when next we visit Madeira.
